Teaching has never been easy. And teaching online is way more difficult because attachment between the educators and the students in the virtual classroom is less and that’s why a teacher needs to give extra attention to the students who are miles away. And on top of that online learning is self-driven learning where a slightest distraction can result in opting out of the learning course.

What are the steps educators of online learning institutes should take to enhance student engagement? There are too many. Student’s inquisitiveness in technology could be a key to enhancing their involvement in learning. I am going to explain the few and best of them which, if followed, might come handy for the educators.

Using multimedia for better understanding.

The use of blackboard and class notes, whether you admit it or not, is becoming archaic. As the traditional mode of learning is clinging on the orthodox approach of passing on education the overall process of obtaining knowledge is becoming too much old-fashioned. Instead of using those old methods online learning in backing up active learning where to understand the study content online educators are focusing on implementing ed-tech or learning tools to use multimedia for better understanding. And using audio-visual study content, 3d models and augmented reality in active classrooms are the new trend that educators are hinging on.

Active participation.

One of the very best aftermaths of the implementation of online learning is converting non-participating student to actively participating one. According to a study, the percentage of ‘shy-students’ or inactive students in classroom is little more that 40 percent. Many of them are too diffident to answer the questions asked by the teacher in the face-to-face classroom even if they know the answer very well. Online learning is leveraging the use of social networking sites and online discussion boards to ask, answer, report, share and learn in real-time.

The 21st century is the era of digital natives and modern learners are destined to environ with technology. Thus in this age of internet of things, big data, cloud computing online learning is fulfilling the purpose of satiating their crave for learning more through the language of technology which delivers the better way of understanding.

The intertwining of advanced technology in the educational ecosystem has notably changed the approach of learning and classroom. Active classrooms are armed with ed-tech just to make sure that learners are getting involved in ‘working’ with their studies rather than just learning mechanically.

It can undoubtedly be said that there are ample of opportunities to make learning better for the advanced learners and this century is the leeway to upgrade education and educational institutes along with the educators.
